Market Report 1 September 2020
Cattle– 500
A very small rise in numbers which offered a better quality penning, with a good selection of heavy cows made available. Restockers were very competitive in their purchases of backgrounder drafts as well as lighter cattle to restockers. Most of the regular exporters were present, however not all operated. Very light restocker steers sold to strong trends, as did the light and medium weights which made 14c to 15c/kg better. The heavy steers, limited in numbers sold to significantly dearer trends. Light yearling heifers sold to a dearer trend of 4c to 11c/kg for restocker heifers. Medium feeder heifers were firm to slightly cheaper, with a quality variation apparent. Trade heifers saw dearer trends through both light and medium weights, with heavy weight trades slightly cheaper, back 4c/kg. Grown steers in limited numbers with the lighter trades back only marginally. The heavy heifers, however sold to cheaper trends of 10c to 19c/kg. Light and medium cows saw dearer trends 3c to 17c/kg. Heavy cows saw no change and young depastured cows went back to a restocker at 315c/kg. Heavy bulls saw a reduction of 22c/kg
