Market Report 10 April
Cattle- 2877
Inverell penned 2,877 mixed quality cattle, an increase of 1,550 head due mostly to the prolonged dry conditions. All categories were represented, with cow numbers dominating at a little under half the penning. The usual buying group attended, along with the regular feeder orders and restockers. Vealers to the trade showed cheaper trends of 15c, while plainer types also sold to cheaper trends to be 10c to 15c/kg back. Yearling steers did top at 301c for medium weights to be cheaper by 7c/kg, however, this was not indicative, with numbers of better quality calves not available. Yearling heifers to feed were cheaper by 5c to 10c/kg overall. Better finished grown steers showed slightly dearer trends, these in a minority, with grown heifers firm. One pen of better conditioned cows showed a dearer trend of 10c/kg. Again, however, this was not indicative of the market, with most D3 and D4 cows, averaging 5c to 8c easier and light cows to 6c/kg cheaper. Lesser quality, light cows sold to cheaper trends of 15c to 20c/kg. Bulls showed dearer trends of 7c/kg for the better categories.
