Cattle– 887

Numbers were down slightly for a total of 887 head, consisting mainly of young cattle and a fair penning of cows. The yarding of young cattle consisted of a good supply of yearling steers and heifers, with the largest percentage in the medium and heavy weight categories. Quality was good with most of the cattle well bred and in good 2 and 3 score condition, however there was also some plainer cattle through the sale. The usual buyers were active in the sale, however the market was easier for most classes of cattle, resulting in feeder steers selling 10c cheaper, with the medium weights under 400kg ranging from 516c to 625c, while the heavy feeder steers sold from 410c to 550c/kg. Feeder heifers followed a similar loss to the steers ranging from 425c to 558c/kg. The export cattle consisted mainly of a good supply of cows, while there was a small offering of grown steers and heifers. Grown steers sold to a top of 430c, and the largest number of grown heifers toped at 426c/kg. There was a mixed yarding of cows, although there was several pens of heavy cows through the sale. The market was generally 5c to 10c cheaper, with 3 score medium weights averaging 338c, and heavy cows toped at 378c/kg. Restockers were active in the market on suitable cows paying up to 416c/kg for PTIC cows. Best of the heavy bulls reached a top price of 326c/kg.

There was a yarding of 2,629 sheep, of which there was 1,564 head of lambs yarded.  Trade weights were well supplied, while there was increased numbers of heavy lambs yarded, and several pens of light lambs through the sale.  Quality was good with several pens of well finished lambs offered, including a draft of supplementary fed lambs sold. The market held firm for trade weights, while heavy lambs met a stronger market.  Trade weight lambs sold from $142 to $210, while heavy weights ranged from $180 to $220 and extra heavy lambs sold to a top of $260/head.  Restockers were active in the market paying from $40 for very light lambs to a top of $131/head.  Hoggets toped at $170/head. The yarding of mutton consisted mainly of ewes, along with a small offering of wethers.  Quality was good in a stronger market with most  mutton improving by $10/head. The top price of $236/head.
