Market Report 13 March
CATTLE SALE - 1512
Numbers increased by 435 head, in a penning of 1,521 mixed quality cattle. There were good numbers of yearling cattle, however, cows dominated the yarding with over 30% penned. All the regular buyers attended and operated, with feeder orders operating up to last week's levels. Some well-bred pens of steer calves under 200kg went back to the paddock, as did drafts of better bred heifers. Vealers were few in number and sold to the trade at slightly dearer trends. Yearling steers were very firm on last day and heavy weight steers were up to 10c/kg better. Yearling heifers to the trade sold 10c better, with heavy weight categories selling 4c/kg dearer. Grown steers and heifers sold to firm trends, however, numbers were minimal. One pen of heavy cows sold 4c dearer, however, this was not indicative of the market, with heavy cows generally showing cheaper trends of 6c/kg. Restockers pushed light cows to 190c/kg, to be slightly cheaper, while light cows to kill were generally sold to slightly cheaper trends. Bulls showed dearer trends for the heavier types.
