Numbers increased considerably with a bulk of the penning being yearling cattle. There was a similar offering of cows as last week. The quality through the penning was very good with a well presented penning of feeder cattle as well as a few weaners and light yearlings to suit the backgrounders. Most processors were present and operating through a generally dearer market. Feeders and backgrounders were operating strongly. Light steer weaners sold to a much dearer trend, light heifers selling to cheaper trends. Light yearling steers to backgrounders were firm with the comparative feeders dearer. The bulk of the feeder steers comprised of medium weights and these sold to dearer trends of 17c/kg. Heifers sold in a similar vein, with all feeder classes selling to significantly dearer trends, up to 40c/kg for the medium weights, which were similar in numbers to the steers, presenting a bulk in the numbers of the heifer categories. Heavy grown steers to process showed an increase of 4c/kg, the heifers to a cheaper trend. Cows sold to mostly firm trends, although two score cows were 3c/kg better, the heavy drafts more on the firm end. Heavy bulls were 3c/kg dearer.
