Market Report 15 September 2020
Cattle– 416
The offering reduced to a little over a half, with all categories experiencing less numbers. There was limited export competition, the regular restocker and feeder competitors attended and operated, with the majority of the young cattle showing dearer trends. The plain, lighter types contributed to a cheaper trend through those categories. Light steers to feed and restockers sold to cheaper trends, plainer types contributing to the change. The medium and heavy feeder drafts sold to rises of 17c/kg. Light heifers to go onto crop saw a dearer trend of 10c/kg, while the feeders sold to firm trends. Medium weight feeder heifers sold to dearer trends, up 10c/kg. Grown steers and heifers sold to dearer trends, with medium weight steers up to 24c better, the trade steers were up by 28c/kg. Grown heifers to the trade sold to rises of 24c/kg. The cow market varied with light cows to 5c/kg back, quality related. Heavy D2 cows reduced 4c, while the heavy D3 cows were marginally dearer up by 4c/kg. An improved bull market saw heavy bulls rise by 19c/kg.

Sheep
Yarding– 1967 Lambs– 629 Sheep– 1338
Numbers declined to 1,338 lambs and 629 grown sheep. It was a very well presented offering, with an emphasis on a large selection of heavy lambs being available. There was not a big penning of grown sheep, but plenty of weight available. All the regular buyers were present and operating. Light lambs to the processor eased $7/head, with just a slight combination of quality and weight a factor. Trade Dorper lambs, however sold to dearer trends of $3 to $7/head, presenting with good pens of shorn lambs. Trade cross bred lambs sold to firm trends. Heavy lambs also sold trends of $11 to $12/head dearer. The extra heavy lambs saw significantly dearer trends making gains of up to $27/head. Hoggets sold from $165 to $180/head. Medium weight ewes eased by $12/head, heavy ewes were firm and ewes over 30kg saw weight and quality sell to slightly dearer trends. Heavy wethers were firm and extra heavy wethers saw a dearer trend owing to extra weight in the consignments.
