Cattle– 1136

There was a yarding of 1,136 head of cattle, consisting of a large percentage of yearlings, while cows were well supplied. The yarding of young cattle consisted of a good quality offering of yearlings, which was a improvement on last week yarding. There was increased numbers of well bred cattle carrying extra weight this week, with limited numbers of plain conditioned cattle through the sale. The yarding of grown cattle consisted mainly of cows. The market varied at times through the sale depending on weight and breed, with medium weight feeder steers selling firm to slightly easier in places to average 452c, however heavy feeder steers over 400 kg were up to 9c dearer for the better quality steers, ranging from 418c to 457c/kg. Feeder heifers were easier depending on quality, with most making from 390c to 464c, and trade heifers reached a top price of 404c/kg. The yarding of export cattle consisted of several pens of grown steers, a few less heifers this week, however cows were well supplied. Grown steers were back by 10c toping at 370c to processors, and feeder steers sold to 438c/kg. Grown heifers sold up to 375c/kg. The yarding of cows saw mainly heavy 3 and 4 scores offered in a market that was 10c to 16c cheaper, with 3 score medium weights averaging 285c, and heavy weight cows reached a top price 302c/kg.

There was a reduced yarding of 1,900 sheep, of which there was 1,385 lambs penned. The yarding of lambs consisted of a mixed quality offering with several pens of well finished heavy and trade weight lambs, along with a few pens of light store lambs that were suitable for restockers. The market remained strong, although an odd pen of heavy lambs were slightly dearer. Trade weight lambs sold from $165 to $190, while heavy trade lambs sold to $205/head. Heavy and extra heavy lambs topped at $272/head. Dorper lambs sold to a top price of $270/head. The small penning of hoggets sold to 228/head. The yarding of mutton consisted of a good sample of both ewes and wethers, in mainly good 3 score condition. The market remained firm for most classes of sheep selling to a top price of $235/head.
