Market Report 17 Sept 2019
Cattle-
Yarding– 2002
Numbers increased slightly with a rise in yearling heifer numbers and cows rising to over 800 head. There were good numbers of well finished, grain assisted cattle offered. Conversely, there was a large offering of plainer conditioned cattle, particularly in the younger categories. All the regular buyers attended. With a drop in condition, weaner cattle saw cheaper trends throughout. Light steers saw a 30c to 50c/kg reduction in trends, with the heifer portion also cheaper, falling 40c/kg. Limited sales of better quality feeder steers saw a dearer trend in the lighter drafts of 11c/kg, with the medium weight drafts also showing a dearer trend. Heavy steers to the trade sold to 291c/kg. Feeder heifers, in larger numbers saw cheaper trends with quality a factor. Mid weight heifers sold to a 19c/kg reduction. Light, plainer conditioned types to restock and background sold to significantly cheaper trends. The better drafts of grown steers to feed sold slightly dearer, with the similar heifer drafts 21c/kg better to the trade. Light 1 score cows sold to substantially cheaper trends to the feeder market. Light trade cows were 16c to 20c cheaper, the D3 and D4 cows also seeing a cheaper trend of 15c to 20c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to a cheaper trend of up to 38c/kg, with a current cessation of the live export trade

Sheep-
Yarding– 3800 Lambs– 1350 Sheep– 2450
Inverell penned extra grown sheep and a few less lambs than the sale two weeks ago. Better weight in the better lambs saw trends rise, however the lighter drafts saw cheaper trends throughout. Grown sheep also saw cheaper trends, particularly in the crossbred lines. Light trade lambs saw cheaper trends. Well finished Merino lambs made to $136/head. Trade lambs were generally $6 to $17/head cheaper, with a decrease in weight for those categories. Heavier trade lambs also recorded falls of $5/head, again, a weight variation. The heavy lambs saw dearer trends of $12 to $20/head, but saw a much heavier weight variation. Heavy hoggets recorded cheaper trends, although not a big offering. Grown sheep were cheaper throughout, with medium weight ewes selling $20 to $30/head cheaper. Wethers recorded cheaper trends, with the penning of a lighter, plainer quality offering than a fortnight ago
