Cattle– 1035

Numbers lifted 30% to present a quality penning of cows and a large offering of Bos Indicus cross heifers. There was a smaller number of plainer quality yearlings through the penning. A full panel of buyers were present including the return of an exporter after a long absence. There was plenty of feeder and restocker competition through the sale. Restockers led the competition in the young cattle market. Steer weaners met with strong demand to see weight and quality the factor in rises. There were not as many heifer weaners, however a slight rise was reported. A slight reduction in quality among the medium weight steers to feed saw a correction in sale prices. Conversely the heavy offering sold to a much dearer trend. Well bred steers to background sold to dearer trends, making to 616c/kg. Well bred light heifers to background also sold to strong competition, making to 620c/kg. Medium weight feeders also saw a strong demand, not so with heavy weights, a lack of quality through the drafts saw a cheaper trend. There were pens of well presented heavy grown steers on offer and these sold to a dearer trend, to be up 10c/kg. Similarly grown heifers were also dearer by 8c/kg. Medium weight cows declined by 16c/kg. The heavy weight cows were firm to 9c/kg better. Heavy weight bulls sold to strong competition, making to 344c/kg.
