Cattle– 478
Numbers were down slightly for a yarding of 478 head, consisting mainly of weaners and yearlings, while there was a fair penning of cows. The yarding of young cattle was fairly mixed with several pens of well bred cattle through the sale, however there was a fair number of cross bred cattle offered, and increased numbers of light weight cattle this week. The market varied, following trends of previous weeks, with buyers selective on there purchases with the better quality cattle attracting the keenest interest. Restocker weaner steers sold firm to slightly easier depending on quality, ranging from 472c to 576c/kg. Restocker weaner heifers were firm to slightly dearer also depending on breed quality, with most selling from 316c to 500c/kg for the light heifers. Feeder steers were 10c dearer for the better quality steers ranging from 376c to 554c/kg. Feeder and restocker yearling heifers held firm to dearer for the light weights selling from 406c to 436c and up to 500c/kg for light weight restocker heifers. The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows with only an odd grown steer and heifer. Grown steers to feed toped at 400c, while grown heifers sold to 382c/kg to process. Cows held firm with 3 and 4 scores ranging from 261c to 297c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold to 296c/kg.

There was a yarding of 3,537 sheep of which there was 2,473 lambs sold. Quality was good with the largest percentage of lambs grain assisted or crop finished. Most of the lambs were in the heavy trade and heavy weight categories. The market was easier for all classes of lambs with trade lambs under 22/kg dw selling from $70 to$130, while lambs 22 to 26/kg dw $110 to $179/head. Heavy and extra heavy lambs sold from $174 to $192/head. Dorper lambs sold to $186 and hoggets toped at $155/head. The yarding of 1,064 mutton consisted of a good yarding of wethers and ewes, most were well finished. The market struggled with wethers selling to $162 and ewes toped at $145/head. The small sample of Dorper ewes sold to $125/head.
