Cattle– 1022
Inverell agents yarded a few less cattle this week to total 1,022 head which was down by 335. The yarding consisted of a good supply of yearlings, and a few more vealers, while grown cattle were in fair numbers. Quality of the young cattle was fairly good with several runs of well finished and well bred yearling steers and heifers through the sale that were suitable for feeders and backgrounders. Most of the buyers were present, however some did not have there orders as previous weeks, resulting in a easier market in places. Local restockers were active in the market paying up to 612c for the weaner steers and to 590c/kg for the heifers. Medium weight feeder steers were 10c cheaper to average 427c, however the heavier steers were less affected ranging from 404c to 454c/kg. Feeder heifers varied in price depending on breed and weight selling from 387c to 444c/kg The yarding of export cattle consisted of a fair penning of grown steers and heifers, while cow numbers remained steady. Quality was good in a market that saw grown steers sell firm to slightly easier, ranging from 344c to 362c. while heifers sold to a top of 351c/kg. A strong cow market consisted mainly of heavy weights that ranged from 284c to a top price of 300c/kg

There was a few less sheep yarded for the fortnightly sale, totaling 1,769 head, of which there was 525 sheep and 1,244 lambs. The yarding of lambs, consisted of a good supply of trade weights, and there was some runs of heavy and extra heavy lambs, along with a few pens of light lambs the were acquired by restockers. Quality was good with the largest percentage of the trade and heavy lambs well presented. Overall the market was easier with light and Dorper lambs experiencing the greatest loss, with trade weight and Dorper lambs selling $20 cheaper, while heavy lambs were down by $5/head. Trade weight lambs sold from $165 to $188, while heavy and extra heavy lambs made from $192 to $225, and Dorper lamb sold to a top of $220/head. The few hoggets topped at $220/head. The small penning of mutton was made up mainly of medium weights, and an odd pen of heavy mutton in full wool. Most of the ewes and wethers sold firm to a easier trend, with ewes topping at $195 and wethers sold to a top price of $206/head.
