Market Report 22 June 2021
Cattle– 773
It was a mixed penning of 773 plainer quality cattle that offered some cows and calves along with mostly red and blue tagged PTIC cows. There was very little on offer for processors looking for young cattle. Quality did not detract from the offering which saw dearer trends prevail through much of the penning. Feeders and backgrounders provided strong competition, however, not all exporters operated. Weaner steers and heifers enjoyed strong demand with substantial rises in both categories. Steers sold to rises of 20c to 30c, while the heifer offering was up to 34c/kg better. Similarly, yearling steers and heifers sold to significantly dearer trends. Medium and heavy feeder steers were up 13c/kg, while the heifer portion sold to a cheaper trend with a reduction in quality. Restockers pushed the lighter heifers to slightly dearer trends. Grown steers to process were firm and the grown heifer offering sold to a dearer trend, up 7c/kg. Medium weight cows sold 19c dearer and heavy score 4 cows rose 8c/kg. Heavy bulls sold to a 24c/kg rise. Several pens of cows and calves on offer made from $1,940 to $2,740/unit. Drafts of red tagged cows made from $1,660 to $1,920, while blue tags made from $1,060 to $1450/head.
