Market Report 22 May

22nd May 2018

Cattle– 1932

Numbers increased by 572 head with cows showing the major increase to pen over 700 head. Weaners and young cattle numbers remained static. Quality was mixed with pen 1 & 2 score cows available, and numbers of high yielding, well finished cows were well supplied. There were drafts of well-bred young cattle offered, but these sold to mostly cheaper trends. The regular gallery of processors were present and lifted the heavy cow market. The usual feeder and restocker orders were also present, but with reduced competition. Weaners to restock and feed showed cheaper trends of up to 30c to average 238c/kg. yearling steers also sold to cheaper trends, although some sales of medium weight heifers sold to dearer of 15c/kg for the better types. However, some of the lighter types were hard pressed to remain firm to 15c/kg back. There were no grown steers to quote, but pens og grown heifers remained firm for the better end. Light weight 1 score cows sold to slightly dearer trends of 5c, however light to medium weight cows saw reductions of 14c/kg. high yielding well-finished D4 types sold to dearer trends of 6c to 8c/kg. bull quality improved and numbers doubled to sell to dearer trends
