Cattle– 409

Numbers reduced slightly with cows and yearling heifers in the majority. Rain events of up to 90mm occurred through the drawing areas with a threat of more to follow. All the regular buyers attended with one exporter not operating. Restockers stepped in with strong demand through the weaner and light weight yearling categories. Substantial rises were experienced for both steer and heifer weaners, while there were significant improvements on light weight yearlings, both for steers and heifers. Medium weight yearling steers sold to cheaper trends with quality a factor. Restockers were competitive on medium weight steers, these going onto grass and finally to feedlot weights. Medium weight heifers saw rises of 18c/kg, the heavy feeders also selling to a dearer trend. There were no grown cattle for a reliable quote. Restockers were also competitive on drafts of light weight cows, that category showing a rise of 23c/kg. Medium weight cows sold to dearer trends of up 8c/kg. Heavy 3 and 4 score cows were firm. Limited pens of good quality cows and calves sold from $2250 to $2550 per unit.
