Market Report 23 November 2021
Due to extended rain events through the drawing area, numbers reduced substantially, with young heifers and cows very much in the minority. Given the shortfall there was reduced competition from local operators, feeders, backgrounders and export buyers, not all of whom attended. Weaner cattle, while there were only few, were of good quality, steers to top at 858c, and heifers to 752c/kg. Light weight steers sold to significant rises, the heavier backgrounders also in strong demand. The few medium and heavy feeders sold to reduced trends. Heifers sold to cheaper market in the main, with the lack of numbers the principal factor. Trade yearlings sold to strong trends, for both steers and heifers. There were not enough grown steers and heifers for a reliable quote. Medium weight cows saw a cheaper trend, again quality and weight had a bearing on prices. Heavy weight cows sold to very firm and slightly dearer trends. Heavy weight bulls sold to dearer trends, with restockers very competitive on heavy bulls back to the paddock.
