Market Report 28 August
Cattle– 420
With some of the better rainfalls recorded across the drawing area, numbers decreased by more than half. Yearlings made up the bulk of the offering, along with limited numbers of vealers and cows. The quality of the offering was mixed. Condition was on the plainer side, with limited supplies of crop finished cattle available. There were a number of pens that had been supplementary fed. The usual processors were in attendance, however the low numbers saw a reduced gallery of restockers participate. Market trends responded to the rain and low numbers with all classes of young cattle recording dearer trends. Although, there were a few classes affected by quality and breed. Vealers purchased by restockers saw improvements of 10c to 20c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to restock and feed experienced strong gains, with the lower numbers bringing about an overall improvement in average quality. Medium and heavy weight feeder steers were in limited supply, making 10c dearer and more in places. Light weight trade yearling heifers sold to dearer trends, increasing 30c to 35c/kg, with a number supplementary fed and crop finished lines available. There were strong gains for medium weight feeder heifers. A very strong cow market saw dearer trends, upwards of 40c/kg as processors competed strongly for the limited supply. Heavy B muscle bulls sold to a dearer trend of 20c/kg.
