Cattle– 737

There was a yarding of 737 head, which was down by 263. The yarding consisted mainly of a good supply of yearlings, and a fair penning of cows. The yarding of young cattle was made up mainly of yearlings that were of good quality consisting of several pens of well bred steers and heifers that were suitable for feeders and backgrounders. Competition was strong with feeder steers selling firm to 10c dearer, depending on weight and breed, selling to a top of 560c with medium weights averaging 509c and restocker steers toped at 598c/kg. Yearling heifers met a strong market selling to 568c/kg for feeders. The yarding of export cattle consisted mainly of cows, along with a few pens of grown steers and heifers. Grown steers held firm ranging from 399c to 422c, while the heifers sold to 416c to process and feeders toped at 432c/kg. The cow yarding was a little more mixed this week, although there was several pens of well finished 3 and 4 score cows offered. The market was down by 10c with the plainer cows loosing more. Medium weight 3 score cows averaged 375c, while heavy 4 score cows sold to a top price of 392c/kg. Best of the heavy weight bulls toped at 315c/kg.

There was a total yarding of 2,327 sheep yarded with lambs making up the largest percentage of the offering comprising of 2,097. The yarding of lambs consisted of increased numbers of heavy and extra heavy lambs, along with several pens of trade weights through the sale. Quality was good with most lambs in good 3 and 4 score condition mainly crop finished. There was also an odd pen of young lambs offered. Competition was strong with young lambs selling to a top of $225/head. Trade lambs topped at $198, while extra heavy lambs reached a top price of $300/head. There was a small penning of Dorper lambs penned and they sold to $262/head. The few hoggets reached a top price of $280/head. The small penning of mutton consisted of some weathers, however most sheep were ewes. Quality was good with some sheep caring a good skin. Top mutton price was $200/head.
