Market Report 29 September 2020
Cattle– 638
Numbers doubled for the current sale, with a very good selection of heavy cows and drafts of feeder and restocker cattle available. Most exporters operated, along with the usual restocker and feeder orders in what was a much dearer market. Light restocker steers and heifers sold to substantially dearer trends, the heifer portion up as much as 43c/kg. The light feeder heifers sold to positive trends of 18c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers sold to strong demand up 23c/kg, while the heifer portion saw a slightly cheaper trend, with a move away from the lesser quality drafts. Trade cattle sold to dearer trends of 7c to 15c/kg. Limited grown steers saw dearer trends to feed, while the heifer drafts sold to dearer trends, also to feed on. All cow categories sold to dearer trends, more so the D4 types. Light and medium weight cows were 9c to 13c/kg better. Heavy D3 and D4 cows experienced the better end of the market seeing rises of up to 18c/kg for the D4 category. Bulls sold to firm trends for the heavy drafts

Sheep
Yarding–1967 Lambs– 629 Sheep– 1338
Numbers declined to 1,338 lambs and 629 grown sheep. It was a very well presented offering, with an emphasis on a large selection of heavy lambs being available. There was not a big penning of grown sheep, but plenty of weight available. All the regular buyers were present and operating. Light lambs to the processor eased $7/head, with just a slight combination of quality and weight a factor. Trade Dorper lambs, however sold to dearer trends of $3 to $7/head, presenting with good pens of shorn lambs. Trade cross bred lambs sold to firm trends. Heavy lambs also sold trends of $11 to $12/head dearer. The extra heavy lambs saw significantly dearer trends making gains of up to $27/head. Hoggets sold from $165 to $180/head. Medium weight ewes eased by $12/head, heavy ewes were firm and ewes over 30kg saw weight and quality sell to slightly dearer trends. Heavy wethers were firm and extra heavy wethers saw a dearer trend owing to extra weight in the consignments.
