Market Report 3 July
Cattle– 479
There was a rain affected market with local falls of 50-60mm. Numbers reduced by 625 head to 479 head of mixed quality cattle, penning mostly young cattle and cows. Cow quality lifted to see that category see substantial rises. All the regular operators were present and operated in a mostly stronger market. Both steer and heifer weaners saw trends improve by 12c to the restockers, although the trade lifted those grades by 19c/kg. The best money for yearling steers declined somewhat, however a variation in quality was the reason. Medium weight steers to restock and feed sold to dearer trends of 8c/kg. Heavy steers to the trade were slightly cheaper, lack of weight the principal factor. The quality of yearling heifers lifted, with medium weight heifers seeing trends rise up to 26c/kg. Restockers again put a floor in the light cow market. Medium weight cows saw rising trends of 17c and quality also lifted for the better conditioned cows, to see a substantial rise of 47c/kg. Bulls sold to slightly cheaper trends, however, only a very small penning of 7. There were several pens of quality cows and calve, these selling from $1,360 to $1,400/unit.
