Cattle– 320

Inverell agents yarded a smaller offering of 320 head of cattle, following some good falls of rain through out the supply areas. Young cattle and cows made up the largest percentage of the yarding. The yarding of young cattle consisted of several pens of well bred weaner steers and heifers, and there was also some good lines of feeder steers and heifers through the sale. The market was very strong with restockers and feeder buyers active and keen to acquire suitable cattle for there orders. Restocker weaner steers sold to a top price of 585c, while the heifer portion toped at 552c/kg. Yearling steers to feed and restock, mainly to backgrounders sold to 560c, and heifers toped at 464c/kg. The cow market was 3c dearer, and more in places, with 3 score medium weights averaging 305c, and heavy D4 cows sold to a top price of 334.2c/kg.

There was a total of 1,460 sheep consisting of 405 sheep and 1,064 lambs. The yarding of lambs was of very good quality with a large percentage of well finished 3 and 4 score heavy lambs grain and crop finished. Competition was strong for all classes of lambs. Trade lambs under 24 kg were slightly dearer, however the heavier weight lambs attracted the strongest demand selling $10/head dearer. Crossbred heavy lambs sold to a top of $248, while Dorper lambs sold to a top price of $260/head. Hoggets sold to $240/head. The small offering of mutton consisted of several pens of well-finished ewes and wethers. The market was stronger with ewes selling to $152 and wethers sold to $192/head.
