CATTLE SALE– 1077

Numbers increased to total 1,077 mostly good quality cattle, an increase of 390 head. There was an increase in weaner numbers, similar yearling numbers penned and a good selection of heavy cows. The regular buyers attended as well as new weaner order, along with the usual feeder competition. General rain and renewed competition strengthened the young cattle market with a big draft of light steer weaners making to 364c/kg. The light end of the steer yearlings were mostly firm, with a slight rise of 2c/kg for the better types. Medium weight steers showed dearer trends of 16c, breed and quality showing through, while heavy weight drafts sold to dearer trends of 8c/kg. Light heifers under 280kg showed improvements of 7c to feed on, while light weights were firm and heifers to the trade saw increases of 10c/kg . Medium weights to feed sold to dearer trends of 15c, and to dearer trends of 6c/kg to the trade. Not many grown cattle to quote, heifers showing slight rises of 1c to 2c/kg. Heavy, high yielding cows over 600kg improved up to 20c, while the good D3 and D4 types were 8c dearer to processors and up to 18c/kg better for cows to go back to the paddock. SHEEP SALE

Yarding–     2243          Lambs-  1043           Sheep-  1200

Numbers reduced considerably due to rain, to a penning of 1,043 lambs and 1,200 grown sheep, including Dorpers. All the regular buyers attended. There was limited restocker interest in restocker lambs with trends firm slightly dearer. Quality and numbers saw light trade lambs only slightly dearer by $2/head, with the heavy trades firm. There were few heavy lambs to give a reliable quote, however, these sold to cheaper trends of $13/head, weight a factor. Hoggets were also in reduced numbers, however weight and quality saw them sell to dearer trends of $8, with a very heavy pen making to $138/head. There were good numbers of Dorper ewes available and best of these sold to dearer trends, again due to weight. Light merinos made to similar trends of last day, while the heavy ewes sold to dearer trends of $13/head. Wethers also sold to dearer trends of $9 the better end to $10/head for the light drafts
