Cattle– 1101

Numbers remained similar to pen a large offering of yearling cattle which made up half of the penning. Feeder steers featured in numbers and quality, as well as a handy yarding of heavy yearling steers and heifers to process. The regular exporters were competitive for the heavy weight cattle, backgrounders and feeder operators strong in those categories. Light weight weaners saw little change although heifers to the restockers sold to strong trends, as did the light weight steer weaners. Medium and heavy weight steers saw considerably stronger trends, and light weight backgrounder steers also sold well. There was a good offering of both heavy yearling steers and heifers to the trade. Heavy feeder heifers sold to similar veins to be significantly dearer. The light and medium weight feeders saw a cheaper trend, quality contributing, although the restocker interest saw that category much dearer. Grown steers to the trade, in light numbers, sold to dearer trends, as did the heifers. Cows sold to a mostly cheaper trend to see general 5c to 11c/kg reduction. Similarly cows back to the paddock were cheaper. Bulls also sold to cheaper trends to reach 361c/kg. Light weight bulls to feed on sold to substantially dearer trends. Cows and calves sold open auction made to $3500/unit.

Yarding– 3000                              Lambs–2000                   Sheep– 1000

This was the first sale at Inverell for a month, owing to the wet weather. It was an offering of 2000 lambs and 1000 grown sheep. Overall, it was tidy penning of lambs, particularly in heavy section. There were also several pens of new season store lambs available. All the regular buyers attended and there was solid restocker competition on young Dorper ewes back to the paddock. New season store lambs were snapped up by restockers, particularly the lighter end. Restockers also competitive on drafts of older store lambs. Trade lambs, varying on weight sold $210/head. Heavy trades sold $189 to $216/head. Heavy lambs to $274 and extra heavies to $278/head. Heavy hoggets to $227/head. Medium weight ewes sold to $157,heavy wethers $170 to $190/head. A draft of young Dorper ewes sold to $306/head back to the paddock.
