Market Report 7 September 2021

7th Sep 2021

Cattle–  824

Numbers increased slightly to see an offering of well bred yearling cattle, and a penning of heavy weight well presented cows. Not all cow buyers operated, and those who did lifted price trends considerably. Backgrounder and feeder orders were in place. Weaner steers sold strongly to be 15c/kg better. Similarly weaner heifers sold to significantly dearer trends, all selling to restocker and background interests. There were plainer drafts through the light weight yearling steers, and these sold to a cheaper trend. Similarly plainer types in the medium weight feeder steers saw a slight downward price correction. This reversed in the heavy weight feeders to see a solid price rise. Backgrounders were strong on the light weight yearling heifers, to see that category sell to a dearer market. Both grades of medium and heavy weight feeder heifers saw a slight price correction due to drafts of plainer heifers being included. Processor heifers sold to a dearer trend. Heavy grown steers to process were firm to dearer, the heifer portion selling to a dearer trend of 10c/kg. Cows saw significant price rises, with the heavy weight high yielding types 13c to 18c/kg better. A pen of cows back to the paddock sold to 326c/kg. Bulls were 8c to 10c better to top at 375c/kg to process.
