Market Report 8 February 2022
Cattle– 648
Numbers increased only marginally to see a significant rise in cow numbers, along with an extra exporter after an absence. All other operators were present in a varied market, which offered a mostly good quality penning. The return of a feeder buyer sourcing heavy heifers saw trends for that category improve in price. There was only a very limited offering of weaners, those going to the restocker and the trade. Light weight yearling steers to the paddock, sold firm to dearer trends, of up to 21c kg. The feeder drafts saw cheaper trends, back 10c/kg. The heavy feeders reversed the trend, being 10c/kg better. Light weight yearling heifers to the paddock were back by 15c/kg. The light and medium weight heifers were cheaper to feed on, however as with the heavy steers heavy feeder heifers saw a much dearer trend with the advent of an extra operator. Heavy grown steers sold to a dearer trend of 20c to process, and up to 7c/kg to feed on. Grown heifers also much dearer to process. Heavy weight cows to processors sold to dearer trends, with 2 score cows up to 27c/kg better. The 3 and 4 score cows were 4c to 9c/kg dearer. Heavy weight bulls were firm, with light weight yearling bulls to feed on much dearer. Cows and calves $2,560 to $2,800/unit.

Yarding– 1680 Lambs– 1380 Sheep– 300
Inverell penned 1380 lambs and 300 grown sheep. It was a very good quality penning of lambs ,particularly through the heavy lambs. Restockers were competitive, purchasing drafts of Dorper ewe lambs, with all other regular processors present plus those absent through turns of the pandemic. A pen of young lambs were purchased by restockers, the balance of the lamb penning were of old lambs. Trade lambs saw solid rises on sales a fortnight ago. Dearer trends of up $10 to $17 were experienced, while heavy trades sold to $11/head better. Heavy lambs saw rises of $16 better and the extra heavy lambs in excess of 30kg cwt sold $250 to $282/head. Hoggets to $212/head. Restockers competitive on Dorper ewe lambs, these selling $275 to $282/head. A heavy penning of cross bred ewes sold to strong competition, making to $230/head.
