Market Report 9 November 2021

9th Nov 2021

Cattle– 579

Rain events through the drawing area saw numbers halve. There was a reduction in weight and quality through the young cattle which included a large offering of plainer conditioned Bos Indicus bred offering, of both cows and young cattle. Young cattle weaners and yearlings sold to cheaper trends in the main, with selected drafts holding the market on last week's strong demand. All the regular buyers attended in a mostly cheaper market with the exception of grown steers and heifers and a relatively strong cow sale. Restockers were active again through the weaner offering, although selling to cheaper trends. Demand also declined on the yearling steers offered with a reduction of quality through both steers and heifers. Background competition was reduced to see steers sell to significantly cheaper trends. Feeders also sold to a cheaper market. Heavy weight feeder steers rallied to improve in price, and heavy yearling steers to process saw substantial rises. Restockers were strong in the heifer offering, although not to the extent of last sale. Light and medium weight feeders sold to cheaper trends. Both grown steers and heifers responded to dearer trends, although both categories were in limited numbers. Medium weight cows were cheaper to be back 12c/kg. Heavy weight cows responded to a dearer market to gain 4c/kg to 12c topping at 405c/kg. Best heavy weight bulls shed 6c/kg.
