Market Report 9 October
Cattle– 823
The offering increased from last week’s sale that comprised minimum numbers. Young cattle numbers are similar week on week, however cow numbers improved. There was a limited selection of grain assisted offerings, with good numbers of well bred but plain conditioned young cattle. Most categories saw improved trends throughout, with all the regular buyers in attendance. Additionally, there was strong competition from restockers. Light weaners to feed on saw dearer trends of 18c/kg from buyers. The heifer portion was also dearer, increasing 8c/kg. Light yearling steers saw better trends of 13c, with good quality medium weight yearlings seeing increases of 30c/kg. Heavy trade steers sold 17c/kg dearer. However, plainer quality heifer yearlings sold to cheaper trends of 3c to 12c, with the prises for the trade section making 5c to 12c/kg more. Due to there being no grown steers last week it was difficult to quote, although heifers saw dearer trends of 2c/kg. Cow numbers increased to just under 200 head, with medium weight cows making dearer trends. The best cows sold to dearer trends of 12c, averaging 245c/kg. A quality penning of bulls saw trends increase 16c to 30c/kg.
