Cattle - 1260

Inverell agents yarded 1,260 head consisting of a good supply of yearlings, several pens of weaner cattle and a fair offering of cows.  There was a mixed yarding of young cattle with quality varying considerably, consisting of several runs of well bred weaner steers and heifers, along with good lines of well finished and well bred yearlings suitable for backgrounders and feeder buyers.  However, there was also a fair number of plain and cross bred cattle through the sale.  Restockers and backgrounders were active in the market paying from 356c to 482c for weaner steers, while the weaner heifers ranged from 290c to 376c/kg.  Light yearling steers to background sold from 400c to 428c/kg.  Feeder steers sold firm to slightly dearer with the medium and heavy weights ranging from 366c to 440c to average between 400c to 410c/kg.  Feeder heifers held firm depending on quality ranging from 322c to 364c/kg.  There was only an odd grown steer offered to top at 346c, while grown heifers met a solid market selling to 354c/kg.  The cow market was 4c to 5c cheaper with medium weights averaging 260c and heavy cows sold from 263c to 283c/kg.
