Cattle - 1530

Numbers were down by 220 for a yarding of 1,530 head, consisting of a good supply of young cattle, while there was a fair penning of cows.  The yarding of young cattle consisted of several lines of well bred weaners, along with runs of good quality yearlings suitable for backgrounders and feeder buyers.  The market was strong with restocker weaner steers selling 20c dearer selling to a top of 556c, while restocker weaner heifers sold to 474c/kg.  Background yearling steers attracted keen competition improving by 20c to range from 474c to 556c/kg.  Light feeder steers held firm while the heavier feeder steers gained up to 20c for some sales.  The feeder steers ranged from 464c to 532c/kg.  Feeder heifers were also in strong demand selling firm to 5c dearer depending on weight, ranging from 408c to 484c/kg.  Cows dominated the export section. The small penning of grown steers sold to 440c to process and feeders toped 486c/kg.  Grown heifers sold to 446c/kg.  Cows were 5c to 10c dearer with 2 scores selling from 336c to 376c,while 3 score medium weights averaged 385c and heavy cows sold from 407c to 427c/kg. Heavy bulls reached a top price of 396c/kg.
