Cattle - 1900

Quality was mixed in the yarding of 1,900 head with increased numbers of heavy cattle penned. Cattle were drawn from local areas of the Table Lands as well as consignments from the West.  The market was very strong for all classes of cattle with restockers paying from 390c to 514c for background steers, while heavy feeder steers were 10c dearer ranging from 406c to 440c/kg.  Background and feeder heifers were 10c dearer ranging from 320c to 398c/kg.    There was limited numbers of grown steers that sold firm to a dearer trend ranging from 314c to a top of 398c/kg for heavy young steers.  Grown heifers followed a similar trend with the heifers to process selling from 360c to 390c, while feeder heifers ranged from 345c to 380c/kg.  The larger yarding of cows met a keener market with two extra Southern  buyers entering the market.  Best of the heavy cows were 10c dearer selling from 360c to 378c, while  the plainer end of the cows were from 20c to 30c dearer, 3 score cows sold from 322c to 360c and plain conditioned 2 score cows 240c to 330c/kg.  Heavy bulls reached a top price of 338c/kg.
