Cattle - 1868

Numbers were similar to last week for a yarding of 1,868 head, consisting of a several pens of weaners and a good supply of yearlings, however cow numbers were well down. Quality was good with a large percentage of cattle coming off crop and there was increased weight in the feeder cattle this week.  Cattle were mostly drawn from local areas, although there was a few consignments of Western cattle through the sale.  The market remained strong with restockers and feeder buyers active and keen to acquire cattle.  Restocker weaner steers sold to a top of 576c to average 517c, while the heifers sold 416c/kg.  Restocker and background yearling steers ranged from 420c to 558c, while feeder steers were firm with some sales a little dearer ranging from 440c to 490c/kg for the medium and heavy weights.  Feeder heifers followed a similar trend to the steers selling from 380c to 460c/kg.  Cow numbers were well down this week, however there was a fair penning of heavy grown steers and heifers. Heavy grown steers sold from 400c to 450c, while the heifers ranged from 356c to 440c/kg.  Plainer cows held firm while heavy cows were 8c to 10c easier. The 3 score cows averaged 352c while heavy cows sold from 354c to 378c/kg.  Restocker cows reached a top price of 334c/kg.  Heavy bulls sold to 374c/kg.
