Cattle - 1928

There was a larger yarding of 1,928 head which was an increase of over 500 head.  The main increase was in the young cattle with larger numbers of weaners and yearlings, while cow numbers remained fairly steady.  Quality of the yearlings and weaners was more mixed this week, although there was several consignments of well bred cattle through the sale.  Overall the market was easier with not all the usual buyer orders in place.  Restocker weaner steers sold to a top of 494c, while the restocker weaner heifers toped at 446c/kg.  Background and feeder steers ranged from 15c to 30c easier depending on weight and breed, with the better bred steers less affected.   Background yearling steers sold from 396c to 498c while the feeder steers ranged from 434c to 486c/kg.  Yearling heifers followed a similar trend to the steers with restocker heifers selling to 454c and feeder heifers ranged from 424c to 446c/kg.  There was only an odd grown steer and they sold to 446c/kg to feed.  Grown heifers sold from 390c to 440c/kg.  There was an outstanding consignment of heavy cows offered, however cow prices could not maintain last week prices, with 2 score medium weights averaging 336c, while heavy cows sold from 375c to 388c/kg.  The good yarding of heavy bulls met a strong market to reach a top price of 410c/kg.
